Pumpkin spiced latte

Updated: Oct 27

The taste of Starbucks without the questionable ingredients and simple enough to have every morning without breaking the bank.

Intuitively, you would think a pumpkin spiced latte would only have coffee or espresso, pumpkin purée, some sweetener, spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, and ice if so desired. This simple recipe has become complicated and unrecognizable at many chain coffee shops like Starbucks where their drinks are far from the recipes from where they originated.

In fact, this seasonal drink, if made correctly, can be a morning superfood pick-me-up. Pumpkin has many health benefits which include: rich in vitamins A and C and antioxidants, specifically beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin to help with eyesight, and it is a great source of fiber.

Here, it’s time to write your first, mouthwatering paragraph. Whether it's a cookie or a tart, every enticing recipe post starts with a good origin story. Describe how you came up with this recipe, what inspired you, what your family or friends liked most about it, etc. Hook readers in and show off your personality by being open and honest, or even funny! Include a number of undeniably tempting pictures under your first paragraph to get your reader enthusiastic.

The simple pumpkin spice latte recipe:

All you need is puréed organic pumpkin, maple syrup, coffee or espresso, pumpkin pie spice, and non dairy milk or cream. Ice is optional, but sometimes it's a necessity in San Diego.

I don’t know the exact measurements of any of my ingredients because I measure each with my heart, so adjust to your unique tastebuds!

But for those of you who need measurements, here they are:

  • 1-2 shots of espresso or 1 cup of brewed coffee

  • 1 tablespoon of puréed organic pumpkin

  • 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup

  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice

  • Splash of non-dairy milk or cream

  • Ice, optional

The simple instructions are as follows:

  1. To a mug add your puréed organic pumpkin, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice

  2. After brewing your coffee or espresso, add that to your mug and use a handheld frother to blend together

  3. Now would be a great time to add your ice

  4. Add a splash of non-dairy milk or cream of your choice

  5. Finish with a little sprinkle on top of pumpkin pie spice

Enjoy!

I hope you like this recipe in its simplicity of ingredients and instructions.
